Our Story

AMVA's inaugural event took place at the Asian American Writers' Workshop (AAWW) in midtown NYC in January 2020 with a question, "what does it mean and what does it take to find your voice as an Asian in classical music?" Since then, we have hosted ThoughtLuck discussions for those who self-identify as Asian around topics of identity and freedom of expression, workshops on social activism in the arts, and more.

AMVA is an organization run by and for self-identified Asians and other BIPOC working and creating in western classical music. We strive to create an AMVA community where all Asian voices, including East, South, Southeast, and West, are seen and heard.
